Jack Smith moved to dismiss four felony charges against Trump.
President-elect Donald Trump criticized special counsel Jack Smith’s decision to drop the two felony cases against him. “These cases are empty and lawless, and should never have been brought,” Trump wrote, calling it a “political hijacking.”
Smith cited the policy barring prosecution of a sitting president for dismissing the election interference and classified documents cases.
Judge Tanya Chutkan later dismissed the election subversion case against Trump, who had pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to defraud the United States.
