Allentown wins $20M from Federal to help reduce unemployment
Allentown, PA – Allentown has won $20 million from the federal government to reduce unemployment.
he Recompete Program was established by the CHIPS and Science Act. This initiative serves as a response to the alarming decrease in employment, particularly in areas where “prime-age” workers (ages 25-54) face significant job scarcity compared to the national average.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo emphasized the importance of the Recompete initiative. “Recompete helps fulfill President Biden’s promise that no community in America will be left behind,” she stated.
Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk previously told 69 News the city’s plan for the 20 million dollars will “focus on engaging with partners in labor, non-profit, and the private sector to address the barriers that our residents face, from skills gaps and transportation hurdles to lack of support services and limited child care options.”
