Minnesota Supreme Court Rules That Threatened Person Must Retreat Before Brandishing a Weapon

The Minnesota Supreme Court made a significant ruling that states a person who is being attacked or threatened must retreat if “reasonably possible” before using deadly force in a 4–2 decision.

This ruling indicates a shift in how self-defense cases may be handled in Minnesota. If someone feels threatened they are required to run away from danger rather than defend their property and life violating the fifth and fourteenth amendment.

28 states and Puerto Rico currently have laws (which honors the constitution) allowing individuals to stand their ground, which means they aren’t required to retreat when threatened.
