President elect Just Spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China
President-elect Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to share his thoughts after a significant phone call with Chairman Xi Jinping of China. He said, “I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and start immediately. We discussed balancing trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the world more peaceful and safe!”
Trade balance refers to the difference between how much money a country earns from exports compared to how much it spends on imports. When President Trump mentioned “balancing trade,” he likely referred to reducing the U.S. trade deficit with China.
Another critical issue on their agenda was Fentanyl. This opioid is linked to thousands of deaths in the U.S. each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 75,000 deaths in 2021 involved synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl.
The discussions also included TikTok, which is under scrutiny over safety concerns. In recent years, there have been worries about data privacy and national security linked to the popular app.
Here’s what President Trump might aim for:
- Ensuring user data is protected
- Encouraging responsible platforms to put user safety first
- Discussing regulations that keep foreign influences in check
