Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver dies at 71

Sheila Oliver who made history as the first Black woman to serve as Speaker of the General Assembly has died today at age 71.

Sheila was Lt. Governor but also led the Department of Community Affairs handling the most challenging issues facing the state which include the revitalization of our cities, affordable housing obligations, and homelessness prevention.

The cause of death was not given in any statement or from the family although the family wishes for privacy for this time and that we remember what she has done for her community according to the press release.
