The Biden Administration Faces Backlash for Having Transgender Visibility Day on Easter Sunday
The Biden administration has announced that Transgender Visibility Day will fall on Easter Sunday this year, sparking mixed reactions from the public.
A study from the Pew Research finds that the religiously unaffiliated – a group comprised of atheists, agnostic and those who say their religion is “nothing in particular” – is now the largest cohort in the U.S. They’re more prevalent among American adults than Catholics (23%) or evangelical Protestants (24%) with Easter being one of the most sacred holidays in the Christian calendar. For many Christians, Easter is a day of reflection, renewal, and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Following the announcement, several conservative groups and religious leaders have expressed their disapproval of the decision on social media. Most believe it is an attack on the most sacred religious holiday.
According to the rules, the Easter egg design “must not include any questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”
Other material that is prohibited from the designs include “material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.”
If it is an attempted attack on the Easter holiday, it has been pointed out by Mindy Robinson a constitutional activist, that Easter does not fall under the same day every year.
The next Easter that falls under March 31 will be in 2086.
