17-year-old athlete senior Caleb White dies
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletic Association is saddened to learn of the death of Pinson Valley High School senior student-athlete Caleb White. The Indians’ all-star basketball standout suffered a medical emergency at school Thursday. Life-saving efforts were started at the school, and White was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Caleb’s family, his classmates, the basketball team, and extended school family,” AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete who played in the North-South All-Star Basketball Game last month. He was an outstanding student-athlete and role model.”
Pinson Valley principal Michael Turner said counseling would be available to students and staff in the coming days. No other details were available Thursday night.
“Our heartfelt condolences also go out to the administration and faculty at Pinson Valley pray they find the strength needed during this time of grief,” Briggs said.
Caleb was a first-team all-state selection this past season for Pinson Valley and a finalist for the ASWA Class 6A Player of the Year.
